Our block print
Beautiful hand printed patterns and designs on garments and textiles are always a treat to the eyes and nothing matches the traditional work of hand block printing.
Hand block printing is traditionally practiced in the Chhipa community of Bagru in the state of Rajasthan in India
The word Chhipa means "to dye" or "to stamp", referring primarily to people who dye and print cloth.
The process of block printing starts with hand cutting blocks of wood, preferably rosewood for its durability, and they are cut into patterns and designs and then dipped in dye and stamped onto long pieces of cotton fabric.
The art of block printing on fabric has been passed down for generations and there are various forms of printing like Bagru printing, Sanganeri printing, Kalamkari block printing, Ajrakh printing and Dabu printing.
Sanganer and Bagru in Rajasthan are the main areas for block printing in India and nearby in Jaipur there is a huge market for block printing like quilts, kurtis, shirts, bed sheets, scarves and much more.
Masala typically uses Bagru print for clothes etc. and Ajrakh print for our bedspreads.
