About Masala

Masala was founded in 2008 by Anjali Poulsen after many years of design and production experience in the Scandinavian fashion industry and runs Masala with her partner Henrik, Anjali takes care of design and purchasing in India and Henrik everything else, it is also Henrik who answers the phone if you calling.

We call our brand MASALA, we basically work with our kantha rugs, which we sell both as single and double rugs, in addition we select rugs that fit cushions, tea caps, jackets and coats etc. and have these sewn at our factory in India.

Our beautiful block printed quilted blankets, tablecloths, toilet bags etc. are sewn in Jaipur in the Indian state of Rajastan, block print is one of the city's brands, all made by hand.

Our kantha sari products come from West Bengal, we produce clothes and accessories in New Delhi and Jaipur, our scarves in North India towards Nepal, our furniture in Jodhpur, our papier-mâché decoration comes from Kashmir and finally our Fairtrade sari quilts, curtains from Calcutta.

We sew our sari silk shirts, tunic and kimono etc. from recycled silk purchased from markets in Calcutta - all 100% recycled

Our cotton clothes, dresses, trousers, shorts and shirts are sewn from organic cotton woven in Kerala in southern India.

We create our products ourselves from start to finish – designed in Denmark and produced in India, the style is basic bohemian with an emphasis on handwork and old traditional methods such as block printing, however we have retained the Scandinavian love of clean lines and comfort so the models are individual, comfortable and timeless.
