Who is MASALA
Masala is inspired by the colorful, mixed aesthetic of India – much like the spice blend "masala," where many elements together create something rich and vibrant. It's not about perfection or uniformity, but precisely about variation, colors, and textures.
Masala was founded in 2008 by Anjali Poulsen, born and raised in Calcutta, India, after many years of design and production experience in the Scandinavian fashion industry. Anjali runs Masala with her partner Henrik; Anjali handles design and purchasing in India, and Henrik handles everything else. It's also Henrik who answers the phone if you call.
Who is MASALA — and why textiles with soul?
MASALA equals a love for craftsmanship, colors, and the stories woven into every piece of fabric.
We are a Danish company with our heart in India. Our collections are inspired by centuries of Indian textile traditions — block print, Kantha embroidery, and hand-woven sari fabrics — and created by artisans who have inherited their skills from generation to generation.
Sustainability as a core value
At MASALA, we believe that fashion and home decor do not have to burden the environment. Therefore, we work with upcycled materials — especially recycled saris, which are given new life as scarves, textiles, and accessories. Each piece is unique. No two are alike. This is no accident — it is the essence of true craftsmanship.
From India to your home
Our products travel far before they reach you. They carry stories from the women and men who created them — with hands, patience, and pride. When you buy MASALA, you are not just supporting sustainable fashion. You are supporting a craft that otherwise risks being lost.
Welcome to MASALA. We are glad you are here.
