At MASALA, our heart beats for Indian craftsmanship, beautiful textiles, and materials with a story. Our sari silk scarves are created from traditional vintage saris from India, which are given new life as colorful and exclusive accessories.
Each scarf is unique. Colors, patterns, and small traces from the sari's former life mean that no two are exactly alike. It is precisely these variations and the history in the fabric that give our sari silk scarves their special character.
Hand-stitched Kantha scarves made from recycled sari silk
Many of our silk scarves are sewn using the traditional Kantha technique, where layers of vintage sari are joined with the characteristic, tight Kantha running stitches.
The stitches hold the soft silk layers together and at the same time create the vibrant texture that characterizes Kantha craftsmanship. The result is a light and soft scarf with colors and patterns on both sides – created from textiles that have already had a life.
By reusing existing sari fabrics, we utilize beautiful materials that might otherwise be lost, while traditional Indian craftsmanship techniques are allowed to live on.
